Youtube Livestream Ceremony and Strava Ride 直播Youtube記念儀式及Strava小組騎行

Ride of Silence
This year’s Ride of Silence, on Wed 19 May, will go ahead, but riding individually or in small groups.
Though we can’t ride as a large group, we can still honour the 16 cyclists who died and remember the 2607 people injured on Hong Kong roads last year, quietly making the statement that “we are here” and deserve respect and consideration as road users.

On that evening from 7.30pm to 10.00pm, we invite you to join the Youtube live ceremony and Strava Ride event and ride your own Ride of Silence – either alone or with up to three friends – along the usual route between TST and Sham Shui Po.

By riding, we quietly recognise all those victims. But at this difficult time we are also showing that bikes offer mobility that avoids being stuck in a closed vehicle with potential virus carriers, which may even save lives.

Youtube Live Streaming Remembrance Ceremony**

7:30-7:45pm there will be a remembrance ceremony live streaming on Youtube:

Then there will be individual or small group ride until 10:00pm.

Use your mobile phone to join the Strava event (https://www.strava.com/clubs/909848/group_events/925920 ) before 7.30pm on 19 May and then ride your own Ride of Silence while letting Strava to record your ride. You need to sign up for a free Strava account in order to do that. One Strava-connected person per group is OK. Of course avoiding bunching with any other rider groups under the present situation.

Please show all the usual RoS respect – especially not chatting while riding.

You may consider printing and displaying images of RoS flags and banners on your bike.

Of course, after the ride please share your experience – any stories, photos or video, tagged #RideofSilence2021 and also #RideOfSilenceHK.

This Sunday (19th February) HKCAll will support the march calling for the Government to halt the ‘Ad Hoc Quota Trial Scheme for Cross Boundary Private Cars’, which will bring more cars on to our road network, when what is needed is a thorough review of the way we use our urban space and a shift towards individual mobility – on foot and by bike.  Why should 80-90% of the width between buildings be dedicated to motor vehicles, while pedestrians are squeezed into rat-alley pavements and cyclists are despised?

Hope you can join us at 3pm, outside Sogo / Great George Street in Causeway Bay.  If you bring your bike, we’ll walk with the group as far as Wanchai, and then ride through Central to meet them at Tamar, to deliver our message to the government.

The march/ride is organised by Land Justice League and supported by many other groups, including Clean Air Network and Designing Hong Kong.  Over the weekend, others, including Civic Party, the Democratic Party, the League of Social Democrats and the Liberal Party are taking action against this impending scheme, and highlighting the lack of sustainable urban planning, and the secretive and high-handed way it has been foisted on us.

See you on Sunday!

Looking forward to the Hong Kong Public Space Initiative forum coming on the 7th January 2012… it will be a great place to air our views on allowing more access to the harbourfront for cyclists to influential people.

The forum is being conducted in Cantonese, however they are providing simultaneous written interpretation (similar to a subtitle service) through providing each English speaker an electronic device (e.g. iPad/Laptop) connected to our translator’s computer by wifi, then the translator will type the main points raised by speakers to the messenger in real time.

This is a great opportunity to get together with like-minded people who want to make Hong Kong’s harbourfront areas public and accessible to everyone!

The “Vision for Waterfront Promenades in Victoria Harbour” public seminar is being held in Cantonese, but they are hoping to get simultaneous translations into english.

From HKPSI:

Founded by a group of young people, the Hong Kong Public Space Initiative (“HKPSI”) is a charitable organization (IRD File No. 91/11733) that aims to bring the knowledge of public space into the public sphere through promotion and education.

Believing you might be interested, we are cordially inviting your members to attend our very first public seminar titled “Vision for Waterfront Promenades in Victoria Harbour”, of which Mrs. Carrie Lam (林鄭月娥女士), Secretary for Development, is going to deliver a speech, followed by a panel discussion comprising professionals from different fields: Mrs. Winnie Kang (姜梁詠怡女士) Principal Assistant Secretary (Harbour), Development Bureau Prof. Mee Kam Ng (伍美琴教授) Professor, Department of Geog. & Resource Mgt., CUHK Prof. Patrick Lau (劉秀成教授) Legislative Councilor Ms. Christine Loh (陸恭蕙女士) Chairperson, Society for Protection of the Harbour Ir. Albert Lai (黎廣德先生) Director & Ex-Chairman, Conservancy Association Mr. Wong Ho Yin (王浩賢先生) Committee Member, Land Justice League.

This promises to be both an excellent learning opportunity and a golden chance for the public to raise out opinions and vision for the promenades.

Ecomobility conference

November 16th, 2011 | Posted by wheeliefine in advocacy | events | uncategorised - (1 Comments)

A conference in December, hosted by the Hong Kong Foresight Centre, will bring together stakeholders to see how Hong Kong can develop a more environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive way of local mobility, combining the use of non-motorized means of transport such as walking, cycling and wheeling with the use of public transport and light electric vehicles, provided electric power stems from renewable energy sources.

Would you like to take part?  (exact date to be announced)

http://www.hkforesight.org/?page_id=66

The 5th Harbourfront Bike Ride was joined by hundreds of cyclists, of all kinds of cycling experience and on all kinds of bikes (and a few other human-powered wheeled conveyances!)  On a fine afternoon, as well as having a good time together, the message was made loud and clear that cycling has a place on Hong Kong island.

Taiwan Cycling Festival

August 14th, 2011 | Posted by wheeliefine in events - (4 Comments)

As part of its ongoing push to make itself a regional mecca for cycling, Taiwan is holding a first annual ‘Taiwan Cycling Festival’, 5-13 November 2011.

For an event that was promoted with full page ads in The Economist, there is surprisingly little information online.  No single main website that I can find.

There was an official announcement, with the national tourism authority responsible.  But this third-party site seems to be the best available info. (There was a sort of warm-up event last year.)

Does anyone know more?

The 2011 Hong Kong Ride of Silence is nearly here again. It is held every year on the third Wednesday of May, to remember the cyclists being killed and injured every year on our roads

Date: Wednesday 18th May

Time: 7:30pm

Location: Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower

Notes: The star ferry will only allow 10 bikes per ferry journey from Wanchai, so be sure to get there a little early to make sure that you can get on a ferry in time, and chat with fellow cyclists.

See you there..!
