In the real world, the major skills cyclists need are:
- 360-degree awareness (looking and listening)
- Anticipation of other traffic behaviour (drivers are mostly rational: know what they are thinking)
- Communication with other road users (through road position, eye contact, talking, as well as those hand signal procedures)
- Remember to own the lane (in the centre) when it’s the safest option
