Safety and Collisions

In the real world, the major skills cyclists need are:

  • 360-degree awareness (looking and listening)
  • Anticipation of other traffic behaviour (drivers are mostly rational: know what they are thinking)
  • Communication with other road users (through road position, eye contact, talking, as well as those hand signal procedures)
  • Remember to own the lane (in the centre) when it’s the safest option
