We’ve seen a copy of an internal guideline of KMB allowing folded bicycles of less than 0.1m3 in size to be brought on their buses. The requirement is to make bicycle a carry-on luggage. We wonder how useful is that guideline for people who want to bring their bicycles on buses. Here is a simple survey to see which bicycles can fit in the 0.1m3 requirement.
Please tell us how big is your bicycle (in m3) and what is the make by replying this post.
To calculate the volume of the bicycle in folded condition, just measure its length (L), height (H) and width (W) in metre and then multiply all 3 measurements. That is: length (m) x height (m) and width (m) = volume (m3)
Mine Mouse Lufu: 0.82m x 0.67m x 0.34m = 0.19m3
Not qualified.
Are we sure that KMB’s definition of volume (of irregular shaped objects) is still L X W x H? If the pedals stick out at the bottom and the seatpost sticks up (but is thin), isn’t the volume less than the equivalent ‘box’ shape?
Brimpton m6r ( Quailfy )
0.57m x 0.27m x 0.59m=0.091m3
Dahon Dash P18
Folding Size: 35 x 79 x 88 cm (13.7″ x 31.1″ x 34.6″)
Thanks Andy for the info. That is 0.35 x 0.79 x 0.88 = 0.24 cubic metre. Sorry, too big by KMB standard.
Brompton, measured by the carton box that came with it. It measures 0.27 x 0.58 x 0.61 = 0.096 m3 and just made by a narrow margin.
Brompton. Official size when folded: 23″ x 22.2″ x 10.6″
http://www.brompton.co.uk/page.asp?p=3072
from their homepage: 585mm high x 565mm long x 270mm wide = 0.089m3 (passed)

I wonder how KMB came up with 0.1 m3?
Was it “Here’s the size of a small parcel. Impose that on the cyclists to shut them up.”
or
“What is a reasonable limit, given the actual size of most folded bikes, and how can we accommodate that?”
This survey may reveal the answer.
I would say it’s the former. Is there a way to contact KMB to find out?
birdy Monocoque : appox. 0.75m x 0.6m x 0.4m = 0.18m3
The Birdy’s 0.18m3 does not meet the KMB requirement.
My bike is a 16″ folding bike and size is 0.73m x 0.41m x 0.58m = 0.17m3
Dear Szeman, can you tell us what is the brand and make of your folding bike? It helps to know which make meet the “requirement” or not. THX very much.
My bike is “Tonino Lamborghini TL1601″, 16” wheel, Hi-ten steel, net weight 13.2kg.
I take it by bus (First Bus) at 1st sunday of every month to join 3+1單車同學會 and without bag to pack it.
Just one time, a female driver cautioned me should pack it in the bag.
Dahon Sweet Pea 29 x 57 x 70cm (11″ x 22.5″ x 27″)
=0.116m3 (sorry, does not fit in the requirement of KMB)
Various Stridas (and personally think the nicest of folding bikes to actually use):
http://strida.hk/specification
Mini: 102cm x 51cm x 26cm = 0.135m^3
Full-size: 114cm x 51cm x 26cm = 0.151m^3
So looks like it’s some bullshit KMB made up to shut cyclists up…
