Lift cycling bans where?

Cycling groups have told Transport Department (TD) that some sections of public road are unreasonably blocked to cyclists, and it has responded by asking us to provide a list of locations where cycling should be permitted but currently is not.

So now, we need your help.

‘No cycling’ signs – seen on many bridges, flyovers, underpasses and other sections of road and cycle track – are put there by TD, which can just as easily take them down again. The law is defined by the existence of the sign.  (On the other hand, cycling on roads designated as expressways or tunnels is prohibited by specific laws.)

Please think of any locations you know that should be opened up to cyclists, and tell us.  In addition we’d like to hear about anywhere that cycling is unnecessarily difficult or dangerous or where small improvements could make a big difference. We’ll try to get Transport Department to fix it.

The map below shows places that have already been submitted. If yours is not yet there, or if you would like to add a further comment, please send the location/details to info@hkcyclingalliance.org.

If possible, please identify the exact location from Google Maps.  Follow these steps on your phone (iPhone, Android) or through any browser.  (Your suggestion will be added to the map, within 1-2 days.)

Please describe (briefly, at least) why this matters, eg. what access it would allow, or why the ban is unreasonable.
